Our Story

The award winning New Zealand Pump Company has been helping manufacturers and resellers of liquid products to grow market share and increase profits since 1991 when its founder David Johns, partnered with the New Zealand inventor of the patented hand pump to take Ezi-action® Drumpumps to the world.

The T-handled Mark I version (proudly shown in the company’s logo) became an instant hit with farmers throughout New Zealand with its ease of operation and reliability. The leading dairy hygiene supplier that first took the Ezi-action® Drumpump to the market continues to offer this drum pump as a profitable product line.

The New Zealand Pump Company developed the Mark II version, a mix of PVC and polypropylene and introduced the world to the Ezi-action® Drumpumps' innovative ball handle and safety strap that remains a distinctive, key feature to this day.

Continued market research identified the need for widened chemical resistance. This led to the 100% polypropylene Mark III version Ezi-action® Drumpump for 20 - 30 litre containers.

The success of this design was applied to our 200 litre (55 gallon) drum pump and then led to the development of 110 litre, 60 litre (15 gallon) and IBC pumps (1000 litre / 220 gallon). The widened range and increased chemical resistance allowed Ezi-action® Drumpumps to be used successfully in more industrial markets.

Increasing demand for Ezi-action® Drumpumps saw production grow from the garage of the inventor to the round barn on the Johns family farm and then on to industrial premises in Hamilton, New Zealand. Along with quality, David embedded into the company the core family values of Support, Service, and Loyalty.

Never stepping away from these values David made sure his family was always involved with the company. The Johns' children seen in this photo using the earliest Ezi-action® Shallow Well Pump, have played a role in the business over the years.

Sadly David Johns passed away in 2002, but he left a strong legacy in the New Zealand Pump Company, which has continued to go from strength to strength under the leadership of his wife and business partner Claire Jenkinson-Johns.

Hayden Johns, their son, spent two years with the sales team in the UK and on his return to New Zealand spent time on global marketing projects.

The loyalty and dedication of USA based, Vice President Sales, Jim Maines, a good friend of David’s, based at NZ Pump Company Inc, California, provides continuity and further strengthens the business.

The company's search for ways to add value to liquid and powdered products through innovative dispensing technology led to the development of the Ezi-action® Safety Measure in 1996 and the Ezi-action® Powder Measure in 2001. Accessories continue to be added to the product lines with the non-siphon tube added in 2013 and the reducer spout more recently. Further innovations include the double thread on the Ezi-action® Adaptor Fitting ( M63R, MBSP55)

Loyal employees who started assembling Ezi-action® Drumpumps on the Johns' family farm continue to work in the current lean manufacturing customised premises in Te Rapa, Hamilton.

In-market final assemble with warehousing and a sales office for the UK and European market was established in 2008 with New Zealand Pump Company (Europe) Ltd located in Burton on Trent, Staffordshire, UK.

Initally established in 2001, since 2013 NZ Pump Company Inc in Alhambra, California has produced USA made Ezi-action® Drumpumps for the Americas duplicating the successful New Zealand model with the sales team and operators in close association.

"We remain a family owned and operated company that continues to strive to exceed the expectations of our customers and to provide customer orientated hand pumping solutions," says Claire Jenkinson-Johns.
