What is a Clean Room?

A cleanroom is a controlled environment where products are manufactured. They are frequently found in electronics, including semiconductor and hard disk manufacture, pharmaceutical, biopharmaceutical, medical device industries and other critical manufacturing environments.

Clean rooms are planned and manufactured using strict protocol and methods. There is more to a clean room than air filters. Once a cleanroom is built it must be maintained and cleaned to the same high standards.

Cleaning is an essential element of contamination control.

Common contaminants cause problems in cleanroom environments.

It has been found that many of these contaminants are generated from five basic sources. The facilities, people, tools, fluids and the product being manufactured can all contribute to contamination.
